Aviation Technical Consultant – Australian Federation of Air Pilots  

The Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) is a professional association and union representing over 4000 Australian pilots from all sectors of the Australian aviation industry, including Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Tiger Airways, QantasLink, Regional Express and a broad range of commercial helicopter and fixed wing operations.  

Due to expanding membership, and to meet the challenges of the Australian aviation industry, an opportunity exists for an experienced individual with a strong background in aviation safety and technical (S&T) matters to join the AFAP team as a full-time employee.

Duties include:  

  • Working with the AFAP’s Technical Director and Technical Committee to research and provide guidance on significant S&T matters

Key Requisites

An opportunity exists for a suitably qualified rotary-wing pilot to be appointed to the position of Head of Flying Operations for Australian Helicopters Pty Ltd (AHPL).

The Role:  We are currently looking for a Deputy Chief Pilot to join our CSWAFC team full time. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated & have proven ability in ensuring superior operational standards for a flight college.  This position is also responsible for monitoring and correcting operational standards in order to ensure compliance with the Act, regulations and Civil Aviation Orders.  This role supports the Chief Pilot who has control of all flight crew training and operational matters affecting the safety of the College’s flying operations.  

  • Assist the CP in their responsibilities in accordance with CAO 82.0 (Appendix 1, sub para 3.1)
  • Promote flight safety throughout the school
  • Deputise for the Chief Pilot during times of absence
  • Ensure compliance with the rules and regulations as required by CASA.
  • Define and monitor the required quality and standard of training given by the Flight Instructors.
  • Ensure the Chief Pilot is advised on the equipment required to support training activities. 
  • Ensure all training documentation, manuals and courseware are fit for purpose and meet the requirements of the College. 
  • Oversee approved ground, flight and simulator training.
  • Align with the CFI to ensure minimum KPI’s are met regarding student pass rate, client feedback, renewals, upgrades, etc. 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ability to meet the Chief Pilot requirements as determined by CASA
  • University degree in business management or aviation, preferred
  • Hold a current CASA class 1 medical certificate and CPL
  • Hold a valid Grade 1 instructor rating with META and CIR or equivalent experience from an ICAO state
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Head of Operations or Chief Pilot role in a similar environment, preferred.
  • Experience in training as a flight instructor for professional pilot licenses, preferred

Philips Search & Rescue Trust

Based in Rotorua, New Zealand
Are you an experienced pilot with over 2000hrs PIC with a desire to join New Zealand’s largest and most successful search and rescue trust?  Do you have the ability to lead and be part of a team of pilots, crew and volunteers performing inter-hospital transfers, search & rescue and medical missions?  
If this sounds like you then we have the right job.  We currently require a full-time Helicopter Pilot /Relief Base Manager, to be domiciled in Rotorua. The position will also involve a relief role in Tauranga and Taupo mainly but also with the requirement to work from the Palmerston North or Hamilton bases if required.
These three bases perform approximately 400 rescue missions per year with a significant amount of search and rescue and mountain flying involving the use of the winch and night vision goggles.
We are often tasked to respond in challenging environments and the successful applicant will have the necessary skills to join a team of elite pilots with first class flying skills and a proven track record of safety first.
Operating four Day/Night VFR AS350’s in Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo and Palmerston North and an IFR Multi-engine operation based out of Hamilton, our aircraft are outfitted with the very latest in navigation, safety technology and role equipment.
The role also includes supporting the base manager and support staff with maintaining and further developing relationships with our professional and volunteer crew persons, the community as well as the funders of the service.
The Philips Search & Rescue Trust has flown more than 20,000 patients since its inception in 1985, responding to emergency ambulance and inter-hospital patient transport requests from its five rescue helicopter bases.
