The AFAP's new Leading Edge Mentor program officially commenced with a Meet and Greet lunch at Moorabbin Aeroclub on Thursday 30 March.
Leading Edge provides new pilots with excellent networking opportunities in a competitive industry. Mentees are matched with a mentor who has long standing experience in aviation. Mentors are able to provide mentees with insight into the aviation industry, including their experiences, perspective and general career advice.
"I wish I had this program when I started flying," said Safety and Technical Officer Captain Marcus Diamond - a sentiment which was echoed by several of the mentors.
The official opening of this program proved to be a great success, with mentors and mentees having no difficulty connecting and getting relationships rolling.
AFAP President David Booth opened the launch, sharing his career path and insights into the industry with the group.
Lunch was followed by a tour of the Aeroclub. The program participants enjoyed jumping in the simulator.
Now that our first round of mentors and mentees have been paired in Victoria, we hope to roll out the first Queensland group later in the year.
