Rotary Wing

Our Rotary Wing team has a fleet of five rotary wing aircraft and operates three bases in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville. Our team of highly trained personnel includes pilots, air crew officers, rescue crew officers, engineers and aviation operations specialists who provide aeromedical retrievals, search and rescue and law enforcement support.

The Aviation Capability Group is seeking an experienced Head of Training and Checking looking for their next challenge to support our Rotary Wing operation. The successful candidate will undertake duties as delegated by the Head of Flying Operations and will be responsible for overseeing the Training & Checking department ensuring efficient, effective and safe management of the QGAir training program. You will maintain training standards for the organisation ensuring operational currency and proficiency for personnel and will conduct training and testing as required to issue or renew flight crew licences and ratings in accordance with QGAir or CASA requirements.

This is a full-time 3-year contract position. Whilst the role is currently located in Brisbane, applications are also being accepted for those wishing to be based in Cairns or Townsville. The location for the position of Brisbane, Cairns or Townsville will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Mandatory Requirements:
Licences & Ratings

  • Hold a current Australian Air Transport Pilots Licence (ATPL)
  • Flight Examiner Rating (FER)
  • Flight Instructor Rating (FER) – Multi Engine or previous Military Equivalent
  • Low Level Rating
  • Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) Rating
  • Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating – 5 Renewals

Flight Hours Requirements

  • Minimum 2500 hours total time
  • Minimum 1500 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) Helicopter
  • Minimum 500 hours Night PIC Helicopter
  • Minimum 1500 hours Multi-Engine PIC Helicopter
  • Minimum 1200 hours Turbine Helicopter
  • Minimum 100 hours NVIS Operations

Certification & Documentation

  • Hold or be eligible to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
  • Valid Class 1 Aviation Medical

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrated and extensive knowledge of CASA regulations

Highly Desirable Qualifications:
Type Ratings

  • AW139 Type Rating

Certification & Documentation

  • Hold a current and valid passport to enable international travel if required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in aviation, business, or project management.
  • Senior management level experience in the provision of aviation services
  • Training approval relevant to QGAir Helicopter fleet.
  • Strong, demonstratable working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
