IFALPA Legal Committee Meeting
The recent IFALPA Legal Committee meeting in Madrid highlighted the significant role that international legislation plays in shaping pilots' operational environment, safety, and employment conditions. The meeting, attended by AFAP (as AusALPA) representatives Rob Close and Andrew Molnar among others from global pilot unions, discussed key issues including data protection amid expanding digital monitoring, atypical employment trends undermining collective agreements, and the need for global standards on pilot treatment in foreign jurisdictions. Rob Close's presentation on leveraging Work Health and Safety laws to enhance aviation safety leadership was well received for its practical application in both industrial and regulatory aviation safety. The committee's ongoing collaboration with international bodies like ICAO and ILO ensures that Australian pilots' perspectives help shape global aviation regulations from the outset. The AFAP and AusALPA will host the next LEG meeting in Australia in 2026, underscoring the importance of this international cooperation for pilot advocacy and safety.
