Airport Security Issues

AFAP (AusALPA) Domestic crew screening recent iWG activities:

● Crew Security Survey to capture member feedback and examples of how security screening is affecting pilots.

● AusALPA working group has been set up and has already met three times to focus on this issue.

● A briefing paper has been sent to the Department of Infrastructure and Home Affairs outlining members’ concerns and practical solutions.

● AusALPA reps have met directly with both departments to discuss these issues – unfortunately the response so far hasn’t been good enough, so we’re planning to escalate.

● A template letter is being developed so pilots can write to their local MPs and help raise awareness.

● The IFALPA Security (SEC) Committee is reviewing our briefing and will highlight Australia’s shortcomings internationally through ICAO channels.

● IFALPA’s EVP has already raised this at the DGCA Asia-Pacific Conference in Sendai, Japan, to get the issue on the regional radar.

● AFAP rep’s met with the IATA regional manager to advocate for prioritised crew screening.
