About the role

We have an opportunity for a Training and Checking Pilot - Rotary Wing to be part of our State Operations and Emergency Management Command. The purpose of this position is to provide direct support to the Head of Training and Checking (H) in the day to-day management of currency and competence of pilot personnel. The role also includes undertaking the responsibility of flying single pilot, multi-engine helicopters under the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) in a safe and professional manner to support all operations of the Aviation Command and NSWPF objectives.

The NSW Police Force Aviation Command is the primary law enforcement and search and rescue agency for the state of NSW. A NSW Rotary Wing Pilot is required to operate across the state of NSW in a high risk team environment, responding to law enforcement, Counter Terrorism and Search & Rescue missions. This position provides the most varied, exciting and disciplined type flying within NSW.

The successful candidate must have the following:

  1. Current Australian Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) (H) or ATPL (H)
  2. Obtain and maintain the requisite security clearances for this position
  3. Must reside within 100kms from the Aviation Command, Bankstown

Hold and maintain;

  1. A valid Class 1 Medical
  2. Current Helicopter Instrument Rating (IR H) (ME)
  3. Current Helicopter Flight Instructor Rating Grade 1 (FIR G1 H), with IR, NVIS, winch training approvals
  4. Night Vision Imaging Rating Low Level Rating – Winch, Sling

Possess the following Helicopter Type Ratings;

  1. Bell 412 and/or Bell 429 Type Rating

The successful position occupant may also be eligible to receive additional qualification based allowances, subject to maintaining eligibility including attainment (and ongoing maintenance) of the following qualifications and delegate approval:

  • Instrument Flight Rules (IFR): $15,000 per annum;
  • Night Vision Imagery System (NVIS): $15,000 per annum;
  • Bonus payment – upon attainment of all NVIS proficiencies (NVIS SAR – Winch, NVIS Tactical - Fast Rope, Aerial Fire Support (AFS – Sniping): $5,000 per annum.
