5x Aviation, formerly Smartair is a long-established air transport and flight training operator with a fleet of single and multi-engine piston aircraft. 

We're seeking a casual / part time Piper PA-31 Navajo Survey Pilot to join our expanding flight operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pilot looking to conduct a variety of aerial survey missions while operating in a dynamic and safety-focused environment. 

You will conduct survey and aerial work operations throughout Australia, operating the Piper PA-31 Navajo equipped with specialist survey equipment. The role offers varied flying, regional travel, and the opportunity to be part of a professional team committed to operational excellence. 

About the Role

  • Conduct aerial survey operations in the Piper PA-31 Navajo.
  • Complete thorough pre-flight planning, aircraft performance, weight and balance, and operational risk assessments.
  • Liaise professionally with survey crews, clients, and operational staff.
  • Maintain accurate operational documentation and flight records.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and aircraft care.

Essential Requirements

  • Current CPL(A) or ATPL(A)
  • Current Class 1 or 2 Aviation Medical Certificate
  • Multi-Engine Instrument Rating
  • Current Flight Review
  • Minimum 750 hours total flight time
  • Minimum 50 hours multi-engine experience
  • Minimum 25 hours on a PA-31
  • Demonstrated proficiency operating IFR and in remote/regional environments.
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods as survey operations require
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous aerial survey, charter, or aerial work experience.
  • Instructor, charter, or remote area operational experience.
  • First Aid Certificate / Dangerous Goods Certificate.
