The recent acquisition of Air Affairs further establishes QinetiQ as a long-term, strategic partner to the Australian Defence Force and underpins QinetiQ’s strategic position as market leader in threat representation, training, test and evaluation. Headquartered in Nowra, New South Wales, Air Affairs provides targets and training services, and electronic warfare capabilities to the Australian Defence Force, in addition to aerial surveillance and reconnaissance in support of government firefighting efforts. Air Affairs owns and operates a fleet of special mission aircraft and maintains an advanced manufacturing and engineering facility providing design, manufacture and certification operations.
We currently have a number of opportunities suitably qualified Learjet 30 series captains to join our Special Missions teams which includes Bushfire and flood-mapping, medivac and charter operations based in Nowra.
As a Learjet Captain you will be responsible for deploying the aircraft and an infrared line scanner operator into an operational environment searching for and mapping fire and flood areas. We currently operate a fleet of Learjet 31’s, 35’s and 36’s from our home base in Nowra and provide services including wide area bushfire surveillance and multispectral imaging across NSW.
Liaising with government agencies and emergency services you will be responsible for ensuring the aircraft completes its required tasks.
As the Learjet Captain your day to day role will see you;
- Be available for on call (short notice 1 – 2 hrs) deployment
- Captain the Learjet support of Aerial Survey operations
- Respond to requests of your scanning operator, clients and on-ground support services
- Collaborate with your team to plan and deliver the mission
What you will bring;
- A minimum of 2000 hrs
- At least 1500 hrs of PIC time
- A current CPL
- A current class 1 medical
- Excellent communication skills
- A Learjet 30 series type rating (similar experience may be considered on a case by case basis)

- To be located within 45 mins to 1hr of Nowra
- A willingness to work on call at short notice
- High levels of awareness and a safety first attitude
- Experience of aerial survey projects in potentially challenging terrain
- Willingness to gain a defence security clearance (Australian Citizenship required)
