Chief Pilot – Expressions of Interest

Posted 6 February 2024 in Australia, Instructor, Fixed Wing

Kirkhope Aviation is based at Moorabbin Airport and operates Australian Air Safaris - fully escorted, all-inclusive premium air tours from 1 – 15 days throughout Australia. We operate a fleet of two Cessna Grand Caravan EXs, three Piper PA31 Navajo/Chieftains, and one Beechcraft B200 King Air.

Due to continued growth in operations, the company is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified pilots for the role of Chief Pilot. The role will be supported by the existing Chief Pilot who will remain in the positions of HOTAC and Part 141 HOO while continuing to contribute to other areas of the business. The position is not necessarily an immediate start and we can offer flexibility for the right candidate.

The role will see the successful applicant manage the aviation operations of the company, supervising a team of six pilots operating a fleet under CASR Part 135. In addition to duties as Chief Pilot, the expectation is that the successful applicant will also fly some line operations throughout the year. Tours involve periods of up to 15-days away from home base visiting luxury tourism destinations throughout Australia. Touring is an integral part of our business and the successful applicant must also be able to deliver high-calibre touring experiences to our guests.

Desired qualifications, skills experience

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a passion for sharing aviation with Australian Air Safaris guests.
  • Ability to be nominated as Head of Flying Operations (HOFO) per CASR 119.135. Previous nomination as HOFO will be well regarded.
  • Strong working knowledge of CASR Parts 91, 119 and 135. Experience with CASR Part 141 would also be a plus.
  • Significant previous experience in CASR Part 135 operations, single pilot under the IFR.
  • Experience on PA31, C208 and/or BE20 types.
  • ASETPA/ASEA/PSEA experience.
  • Training and Checking Experience.
  • Flight Instructor Rating (DF IR MEA).
  • Experience managing the AirMaestro platform.
