AFAP Settlement on First Officers Under Training (FOT)

Qantas Short Haul EA Update No 29
AFAP Settlement on First Officers Under Training (FOT)

The AFAP and Qantas have reached an agreement on the issue of rates of pay for First Officers under Training (FOTs) under the new SHEA9.

Qantas has agreed that any FOTs employed under SHEA9 will be paid no less than the First Officer base rate in the Air Pilots Award 2020 and the AFAP will now withdraw our appeal regarding SHEA9.

Importantly, this settlement has been achieved in a way that does not disturb the approval and implementation of SHEA9, ensuring certainty for Short Haul pilots and the continued operation of the new agreement.

The AFAP and Qantas have also agreed on a way forward to provide for the coverage in the Air Pilots Award of FOTs and Second Officers under Training (SOTs).

Key Outcomes

  • Constructive Resolution: The AFAP and Qantas have worked constructively to resolve the matter, addressing FOT pay while protecting the implementation of SHEA9.
  • FOT Pay Rates: Qantas has agreed that any FOTs employed under SHEA9 will be paid no less than the First Officer base rate in the Air Pilots Award 2020.
  • Award Coverage: Qantas will support an AFAP s.158 application to resolve the Award coverage of FOTs (or equivalent) to ensure industry protection.

What This Means for Pilots

  • Short Haul pilots can be confident that SHEA9 remains secure and operational.
  • FOTs are guaranteed the fair pay that they are entitled to under the Award, ensuring protection for new entrants.

To every member who stood with us - thank you for your continued support as we pursued the best outcome for all Short Haul pilots both in the short and long term.
