QPC Briefing No 23 2025 – Long Haul EA Negotiations Update
Today we met with the Company and are pleased to report there have been some positive developments. Following strong feedback from pilots and firm push back from the AFAP, the Company has reconsidered its Reserve Seniority claim. The Company advised the AFAP that it is prepared to do a deal that does not include Reserve Seniority and has now tabled an offer that improves on its previous Pay Proposal A, that was previously linked to the acceptance of Reserve Seniority.
This is a significant step forward. The Reserve Seniority claim posed serious risks for mainline pilots and we made clear our opposition. It is encouraging that the Company has recognised the potential pitfalls of this proposal, while still preserving its Pay Proposal A with refinements that address some of the concerns the AFAP previously raised with the proposed pay structure. This outcome allows negotiations to move forward constructively.
We have also achieved progress in strengthening safeguards around other concessions. Importantly, this shift follows the escalation process we initiated after talks reached an impasse - a clear demonstration that when pilots stand together and make their voices heard, we can drive meaningful movement at the bargaining table.
Your negotiating team remains committed to securing a fair and balanced outcome and will update you with more details as they become available. Our next steps will be guided by the AFAP Qantas Pilots Council.
