QPC Briefing No 26 2025 – Long Haul EA Negotiations Update
Coordination with AIPA During LH EA 11 Negotiations
Bargaining for the Long Haul Enterprise Agreement (LH EA) continues. Members will recall that AIPA and Qantas had reached broad agreement on key elements of a package, that agreement has since fallen through, and they continue to negotiate on a revised final position.
At the same time, the AFAP has pressed for further guardrails around concessions in discussions with Qantas as we work through the final inclusions of any potential package. Once these details are finalised, the full proposal will be presented to the QPC by Qantas for deliberation. At that point, the Council will determine whether to recommend that the package be put to pilots for a vote or if further negotiation may be fruitful. We share the frustration with the lengthy timeline and we continue to press Qantas on this issue specifically.
In an effort to ensure both AFAP and AIPA negotiating teams share a common understanding of Qantas’ position and to avoid the company exploiting any perceived gaps between us, the AFAP QPC have reached out to AIPA to establish an open and direct line of communication regarding LH EA 11. Pleasingly, the AIPA negotiators have engaged constructively with our team, and continue to do so. We appreciate AIPA’s open approach in this process. This ensures that even though we conduct bargaining separately, we can confirm that the company is providing each union the same message.
In addition, it ensures our message to the company is consistent: pilots deserve a fair deal that reflects the value we deliver, the sacrifices we have all made towards Qantas’ continued profitability, and the world class safety record we all uphold.
We have made our position clear to the company and are awaiting their response. The QPC stands ready to analyse the revised terms of the company offer and present you with more information when able.
