QPC Briefing No 30 2025 – Long Haul EA Negotiations Update

QPC Briefing No 30 2025 – Long Haul EA Negotiations Update

As members are aware from our previous communications, the AFAP has not endorsed the proposed LH in principle agreement between Qantas and AIPA. We have however maintained communications with the AIPA and Qantas LH teams to ensure we continued our professional representation of members in the ongoing bargaining process.

We have reinforced to both Qantas and AIPA that the QPC will play an educatory role and ensure members are informed on the details of the offer and the implications of the various potential pathways ahead. Ultimately, given the complexity of the proposal, the QPC supports the Company taking this proposal to a vote, ensuring all pilots have the opportunity to review the final terms and make an informed decision.

In response, Qantas has advised that our participation in drafting is contingent on the QPC providing an endorsement of the proposed agreement. The AFAP has declined to offer such an endorsement in exchange for representation in drafting, as the QPC’s position has consistently been that the decision to endorse will only ever be based on the merits of the proposal alone.

Qantas has now confirmed that the AFAP will not be included in the drafting of the final document. Instead, the QPC will be provided with the completed draft for a single review and feedback opportunity prior to its release.

This exclusionary approach will not deter the QPC from our role in ensuring members are provided with balanced, accurate, and evidence-based information to support a well-informed assessment of the proposed EA before voting.

While we were aiming to release the explanatory document this week, some items needed clarification as they were affected by drafting. At this stage our full explanatory document is planned for release next week, and we will continue to keep members updated as we approach the vote.
