AskAFAP - EA comparison functionality
Qantas has now indicated that EA11 will not be ready to go to a vote until next year. Long breaks like this, particularly over the Christmas season can lead to the pilot group losing hard won momentum. This tactic – that has been successfully implemented in many industries (not just in aviation), with a hope that the break dilutes the frustration we are all feeling – slows engagement and weakens the strong positions that have been evident from the pilot group.
This is exactly why we’ve accelerated development of the AskAFAP app’s newest feature: EA10 vs EA11 comparison - accurate, instant, and user-friendly. AskAFAP can now break down the differences between EA10 and the proposed EA11 in seconds.
You can compare specific clauses, get full summaries of changes, analyse pay or ask how changes affect you personally based on your rank, fleet, and desired career progression.

This is a powerful tool designed to keep pilots informed and engaged in the lead-up to the vote, no matter how long Qantas delays it.
Staying informed is the best way to protect your position as we head into the final stage of bargaining. AskAFAP ensures you stay connected, informed, and empowered, without needing to dig through PDFs, hunt for old emails, or scroll through pages of EA clauses.
Further information on how to access and utilise AskAFAP is below.
AskAFAP - Built for pilots. Backed by your union. Keeping you a step ahead.
To keep momentum strong over the coming period, we encourage all members to spend a few minutes each week exploring EA comparisons with AVA. Try questions like:
- “What are the key differences between EA10 and EA11?”
- “Tell me about the changes in First Class duty travel.”
- “What changes in fatigue rules between EA10 and EA11?”
- “Does the new EA help out commuters?”
- “How does the proposed pattern protection differ from EA10?”
- “Is there an increase in contactability in EA11.”
The more you interact, the more informed and prepared you are for the vote next year.

How to access AskAFAP
For those members who have not downloaded AskAFAP yet, it is a vital tool that our members have been using on a daily basis. It provides:
- Instant interpretation of EA clauses
- Tailored answers based on your roster and ruleset.
- Integrated case creation, backed by the AFAP’s scheduling officers.
- Continuous improvements driven by pilot feedback.
- Offline access to your chat and case history when you’re travelling.
In addition to the above, the highly sophisticated dashboard in the backend of the app, monitored and controlled by our dedicated scheduling team, is able to produce automated reports with what topics and specific questions our members have been asking. The data is de-identified, but it provides an instant pulse check for what our members are unsure of, what they need escalated, and what hasn’t been adhered to in the EA. This is a critical tool for the QPC that provides instant data in order to approach the base operations team, schedulers or QF negotiators, all without having to wait for survey data to be completed and collated.
This approach is a first in Australian aviation, and is a quantum leap from the traditional, slow support services of the past. The AFAP has heavily invested in giving you, our members, access to high-tech tools that are specifically designed to make your work life easier. This is not a generic, commercial AI tool; it’s your tool, built for the AFAP’s Qantas pilots, and backed by your union to stay informed, stay connected and stay engaged. With airlines already heavily investing in AI, the AFAP’s view is that pilots should have access to the same tools, information, and data as their employer.
