Jetstar EA 2025 Update #37 - Update on Drafting Process

Since reaching in-principle agreement, the AFAP negotiating team has continued to meet regularly with Jetstar to resolve outstanding matters and progress the drafting of the proposed Enterprise Agreement.

These meetings have remained productive, and we continue to make steady progress toward finalising the document.

As many of you would appreciate, the drafting phase can be a detailed and, at times, time-consuming process. However, it is critical that this stage is done thoroughly and accurately. It is far more important to ensure the agreement is clear, consistent and legally robust than to rush the process and risk unintended consequences.

In parallel with this work, we have had significant engagement with members through both the AFAP Telegram forum and direct email correspondence. The negotiating team has been actively responding to queries, providing clarification, and assisting members to better understand the terms and intent of the in-principle agreement.

While we are doing our best to answer questions as they arise, there are some areas where we are not yet in a position to provide definitive responses, as the drafting process is still ongoing.

We strongly encourage all members to join and engage with the AFAP forum, which remains the primary platform for constructive discussion and access to accurate information regarding the agreement.

We are aware there are a number of outstanding questions relating to Open Time and Part-Time arrangements. These matters are still being finalised as part of the drafting process. However, we will be releasing dedicated and comprehensive updates on both topics prior to any vote, to ensure members have a clear understanding of how these provisions will operate.

At this stage, we expect the drafting process to take a further few weeks, with the aim of releasing the proposed agreement to members by mid-May. Once released, there will be a minimum 7-day access period for members to review the document in full prior to any vote, as is required under the Fair Work Act.

The AFAP will also be conducting a series of roadshows and webinars, together with distributing further explanatory material, to assist members in considering the agreement during the access period.

We appreciate your continued patience as we work through this important phase of the process and remain focused on ensuring the final document accurately reflects the in-principle agreement reached. As previously advised, the AFAP, AIPA and the TWU have formally committed to endorsing that agreement and recommending it to members.

If you have any questions, your pilot representatives and AFAP industrial officers Deanna Cain, Pat Larkins or Andrew Molnar are available to assist via jetstar@afap.org.au or call (03) 9928 5737.

Members can also engage constructively with AFAP pilot representatives and industrial staff via the members-only AFAP Telegram forum here.
