QPC Briefing No 20 2026 - Follow Up Survey

QPC Briefing No. 20
Follow Up Survey

After two years of negotiations and over four months of drafting, the EA11 proposal was rejected by a margin of two to one. This result goes beyond dissatisfaction with specific terms. Rather, it reflects a clear collective view that the approach taken in the EA put to pilots did not meet expectations.

In the days immediately following the No result the AFAP released an initial survey to capture pilot feedback while sentiment was current and unfiltered. The responses to that survey allowed us to clearly identify and confirm the key areas of concern within EA11.

Early next week, a solution-based follow up survey will be released to build directly on the foundation of the previous survey. Being solution-focused, it presents a range of potential options and ideas which have been sourced from across the pilot group, as well as insights drawn from arrangements used by other airlines both domestically and globally. Each concept has been shaped by the issues that pilots themselves have already identified as most important.

Importantly, some of the concepts presented may be unfamiliar, and not all will be universally supported. Their inclusion does not indicate endorsement or an intention to adopt them. Instead, they are being put forward to explore alternatives and allow pilots to express clear preferences on what a future agreement could look like.

This process is designed to ensure pilots themselves define the direction of the next agreement. This survey is not merely a feedback exercise. It will be a key mechanism through which pilots establish a clear, collective position that can be advanced in negotiations.

A clear and unified pilot position depends on broad participation in the negotiation process. As such, the survey is being made available to non-members, ensuring the position accurately reflects collective sentiment.

The previous proposal demonstrated that incremental changes around the edges are unlikely to meet expectations. This process is about exploring more substantive, considered alternatives, shaped directly by pilot input.

Your responses will help establish the positions the AFAP advances on behalf of the pilot group in the next phase of negotiations.

AFAP members will be sent an email early next week with their unique link. For non-members, we ask that you email qpc@afap.org.au now to register for your link to be distributed next week. Please title the subject line “EA11 Survey Request” and provide your full name in the email.
