EA11 Negotiations Update
In Principle Agreement Reached Between AFAP, AIPA and Qantas
As outlined in our communication earlier this week, on Wednesday the AFAP, AIPA and Qantas reached an in principle agreement (IPA) on the terms of a new EA11 with the assistance of the Fair Work Commission.
The parties met again today to formalise the terms of the IPA. During that process, several items were identified as requiring further clarification before the agreement can be finalised. We are confident these remaining matters can be resolved promptly, particularly given that the key substantive issues, including remuneration and rostering, have been settled.
While the parties all had intended to provide details of the IPA to members today, the agreed position of the parties was to only release the terms of the IPA once all the matters are finalised.
Further discussions have been scheduled for Monday, with work continuing over the weekend as the parties exchange and refine drafts of the IPA terms.
We appreciate that this delay will be frustrating for Long Haul pilots, who are understandably keen to see the details of the proposed package. However, the parties are taking the time to ensure that the terms of the IPA are recorded as clearly and precisely as possible, and that matters which can be resolved now are not unnecessarily deferred to the formal drafting process. As we have seen previously, leaving substantive issues to drafting can create uncertainty and significant delays later in the process.
Our priority remains to finalise the IPA and provide all Long Haul pilots with the complete terms of the proposed new agreement as efficiently as possible, so pilots can properly consider the package ahead of a vote.
