QPC Briefing No. 56 2026
AskAFAP Pay Widget Version 2 Now Available
To support pilots review of the proposed EA11 during the access period, the AFAP has now released a second iteration of the pay comparison widget embedded within the AFAP’s AI App AskAFAP.
Users should check their AskAFAP version via their app stores is iOS is 1.3.1 or 1.3.2 or Android: 1.3.2(44), and if not then update the app.
This update to widget provides pilots with greater flexibility to assess the remuneration outcomes of the proposed EA11.
The original widget allowed pilots to compare projected earnings under an EA10 rollover, adjusted for actual and forecast inflation from the first pay rise following expiry of the current EA July 2024) over the proposed EA11 agreement period, against the remuneration package in the proposed EA11 over the same period.
Pilots could adjust a range of variables, including divisor hours, blank-line allocations and standby duties, to understand how these factors influence their remuneration.
The second iteration introduces a roster-building function, allowing pilots to select individual patterns and construct a hypothetical roster. The widget then calculates and compares the remuneration outcomes under both an EA10 rollover and the proposed EA11 based on the flying selected.
This functionality is particularly relevant to the A350, where the aircraft's future network and associated flying patterns remain uncertain. As outlined in our previous communication, a direct comparison of work between EA10 and EA11 requires consideration of a number of factors. Please review the AFAP A350 communication here.
The actual A350 network remains unconfirmed, and the remuneration outcomes under EA11 will depend, in part, on the nature of the flying ultimately allocated to the fleet.
To assist pilots in exploring these possibilities, the roster builder includes routes drawn from the existing A330 and A380 networks, which the A350 is expected to progressively replace, as well as Project Sunrise routes already committed to by Qantas and additional destinations that have been identified as potential future services.
Pilots are encouraged to use realistic and representative flying patterns when making comparisons. While the widget allows considerable flexibility, constructing rosters around unusually favourable or unlikely combinations of flying may produce remuneration outcomes that are not representative of what pilots could reasonably expect in practice.
The purpose of the updated widget is not to predict future A350 rosters or earnings, but to provide members with a more detailed understanding of how different flying patterns may influence the relative remuneration outcomes under an EA10 rollover and the proposed EA11.
Accessing the Pay Widget
The updated widget is now available through AskAFAP to Long Haul users by selecting EA11 Pay Changes at the bottom of a new Ava chat. It will also display automatically when you ask a relevant EA11 pay question within a chat.
The widget will pre-populate the fields based on the information within your profile, including fleet, rank and anniversary date.
A reminder there are some pre-set assumptions and considerations you should be aware of prior to using the widget:
- Despite pre-filling based on your profile, you should check that these are correct. If you need to update your details with the AFAP, see the instructions further below in this email.
- If you leave the pay band on automatic, it will calculate your pay band based on your anniversary date. You can choose to manually adjust the pay band to test hypothetical scenarios for your future promotions or fleet changes.
- Blank lines have been entered as a yearly frequency - FY27 includes both the current and future arrangements under the proposed EA11, with each Blank Line treated according to when it falls relative to the first full bid period following EA11 commencement. This means changing the Blank Line frequency can also change when individual Blank Lines fall and how they are treated (with or without passive payment and Standby credits negotiated under EA11).
- The calculator does not model a future promotion or fleet transfer within the same scenario. If you are wanting to examine another rank or fleet, you should run it as a separate scenario and select the appropriate pay band.
