AFAP Information Session Materials

Following on from the AFAP Information Session on 16 July 2023 at the Darwin Sailing Club, we would like to thank you.

It was great that so many were able to attend and it was extremely beneficial, and useful, for us to discuss the bargaining situation at Airnorth with you all. It was also great to see both members and non-members, working as a cohesive group.

As discussed, a copy of the intended slide show can be accessed here.

For those of you who were unable to take a copy of the Air Pilots Award 2020 home from the AFAP Information Session, a copy of the Award (as at 1 July 2023) can be accessed here.

Next week we will be providing you all with a comparison document. This document will compare your current Zombie agreement, the Award, and various enterprise agreements of other operators, including Alliance and NJE. This will allow you to see where the various instruments sit, particularly in relation to remuneration and rostering.

The information will be useful for you when the ALPG meets with Airnorth. In preparation for those meetings, we suggest you consider asking the following questions (even though Airnorth might legitimately not yet know the answer):

  • What does Airnorth think reverting back to the Award will look like?
  • What does Airnorth intend to do with current salaries and your existing contracts of employment?
  • What does Airnorth think the changes to rostering will be when your current Zombie agreement expires?

We suggest you work out what information you need to go into discussions with Airnorth, and ask for it. Asking for information directly from Airnorth will be the most efficient method of obtaining that information if it is available.

Also as discussed at the AFAP Information Session, the question asked by Airnorth and the response from CASA regarding extensions due to unforeseen operational circumstances can be accessed here. For those of you who are interested, this FOI formed part of the background to the AFAP position paper on unforeseen circumstances which was adopted by our Executive last week and has been referred to CASA for comment. A copy of the AFAP position paper can be accessed here.

During the ALPG's discussions with Airnorth for a new agreement, the AFAP is here to assist in any way you wish. Do not hesitate to reach out to:

You can also contact us on (03) 9928 5737.

Please forward this Briefing to any non-members. It is vital that you all have the same information and are working together. In particular, please let non-members know that they are welcome to contact us at any time to discuss there specific working conditions and visa rights.

Again, thank you for attending the AFAP Information Session. We are here to assist you in any way you need. With all pilots working together, you will make the most of the current circumstances which provides you with a unique opportunity to bargain.
