AFAP Qantas Pilot Council Newsletter #1

AFAP Qantas Pilot Council Newsletter #1

Happy Friday everyone,

The Qantas Pilots Council (QPC) would like to express our deep commitment to representing our members in a completely transparent manner. We would also like to express our commitment to being a member driven council. We welcome member input and ideas at all times.

We are confident that with the depth of the AFAP resources, including an incredibly experienced and hardworking legal team and professional negotiators we can bring positive results for our mainline members.

Regular Updates

We understand the importance members place on being in the loop and up to speed with the various industrial, safety and technical issues we face. As such, we will be providing a weekly brief via email.

Short Haul Enterprise Agreement Update

As mentioned in a previous email, the Company has advised the QPC of its intention to impose a two year wage freeze for Short Haul (SH) Enterprise Agreement (EA) negotiations. The QPC categorically does not support this given the sustained, historically high inflation we are all living with.

We believe that Qantas pilots deserve to be rewarded in line with our global colleagues for our ongoing hard work, professionalism and dedication to the Qantas brand and customers. We believe that Qantas pilots have already made significant, unrecognised sacrifices that have ensured the continued success of the Company. The QPC does not believe the wage freeze is a reasonable position for the Company to maintain, and we note the apparent immunity the Executives and Board enjoy from their own policy.

With this Company imposed policy in mind, an AFAP SH EA survey will be released to members very soon which will further inform the log of claims and help drive negotiation strategies. It is our commitment to ensure all surveys are transparent and free from ‘manipulative questioning’ or bias.

The QPC would like to thank you for your AFAP membership. We take our roles as Council members very seriously, and we are fully aware of the great responsibility that comes with representing our members’ best interests.

For any general inquiries regarding this update or other matters at Qantas please contact the AFAP legal and industrial team of Senior Legal/ Industrial Officer Pat Larkins (patrick@afap.org.au), Senior Industrial Officer Chris Aikens (chris@afap.org.au), or Executive Director Simon Lutton (simon@afap.org.au).

Regards,
