Unfilled Narrow Body Pilot Command Vacancies – FSO 022/24
A timely reminder that FSO 022/24 advertising 8 NB Captains in SYD and 5 NB Captains in Perth
will close at 2359 AEST tomorrow (Tuesday 19 March).
Given the circumstances under which this further FSO was published, the AFAP consented to a shorter window of 7 days for the FSO period.
We strongly encourage all pilots who are interested in a narrow body command and who meet the revised minimum section criteria for command as published in OM1 4.26.2 to update their standing bid and complete the updated Tech Crew Hours Declaration Form to confirm their flying hours by
2359 AEDT Tuesday 19 March.
We commend the efforts that have been made by Jetstar so far to exhaust internal pilots for the unfilled NB command vacancies, however the Chief Pilot has been very clear in his communications with the AFAP and the pilot group that it is now at the point where any remaining NB command vacancies following this FSO will likely be filled by Direct Entry Captains (DECs), including Jetstar New Zealand Captains.
Given Jetstar is moving towards a process where Pilot Vacancy FSOs will be published in line with crew resourcing requirements identified using the Northern Summer and Northern Winter schedules i.e. twice yearly, we do not anticipate another pilot vacancy FSO (if required) will be advertised until September 2024.
We caution pilots seeking a command at Jetstar against sitting on their hands and waiting for a command opportunity to come up in their preferred base. While we expect there will be more narrow body command opportunities down the track, we do not have a crystal ball and cannot assume this will be case.
As many of us can attest to, the aviation industry is cyclic and when the music stops, so to speak, there can years between command opportunities. Please bid wisely!
Base Swap Proposal
The AFAP recently put forward a Base Swap proposal for Jetstar’s consideration that would allow pilots on the same fleet, rank and employment type to do a temporary roster swap for a up to 4 roster periods, with seniority determining the pilots who are successful.
Jetstar has agreed to facilitate this initiative as a Temporary Transfer opportunity under the EA (Cl. 64.4) and it will shortly be advertising ‘Voluntary Temporary Transfers - Base Swap’ via FSO. There will be a 3-month lead in period required (for rostering purposes) for pilots who apply for a temporary transfer base swap so this should take affect for successful pilots from the July roster period.
Further details will be set out in the FSO, however the underlying principle is that only like-for-like base swaps will be approved.
New AIA Jetstar Group Life Policy – Nominated Beneficiaries
As you may be aware the Jetstar Group Life policy changed from being a CommInsure product over to an AIA product in December last year due to the CommInsure product expiring.
As a result of this policy change, for reasons unbeknown to us, any nominated beneficiaries did not transfer over to the AIA policy. Pilots should have received an email from AIA last Friday (titled Welcome to the AIA Risk Only Super Solution No. 2 Fund (AROSS2 Fund) with a Welcome Letter attached. Included in this newsletter is a Nomination of Beneficiary form which pilots are required to complete and return to:
