AFAP Narrow Body EA 2024 Update No 13 - REM Package Information

AFAP Narrow Body EA 2024 Update No 13

REM Package Information

AFAP Pay Calculator Data

In the last Update, pilots will have seen that we used median data from the last 13 roster periods (23RP04 to 24RP04) to illustrate the value of the proposed package compared to the current 2021 EA. We wanted to provide more of that data to you so that you can enter more tailored figures into the AFAP Pay Calculator.

Whilst pilots can extract your actual data from the last 13 rosters (referencing the Roster Credit Summary to enter into the calculator), the below is the actual median data and can provide a quicker means for you to further understand the REM package on offer.

Time Away from Base (TAFB)

To assist with DTA and ODTA data entry into the calculator the below table outlines the median TAFB for each trip length over the last 13 roster periods. The data below is global across all bases. As the variation in trip length across bases is nominal, a breakdown by base is not required.

You can now simply use your composition of trip lengths within your average roster to calculate your DTA and ODTA using the below durations for TAFB.

The median data we have been provided by the Company indicates that pilots on average work 6 days per roster period on multi-day trips. Over the last 13 roster periods this results in the median in hours below. We note this data is more accurate than the assumptions used in out last update which reflected 130 ODTA hours for both CPTs and FOs.

Median Peak and Off-Peak Credits

We also provided you with the global median productivity data in our last Update. We wanted to now break this down for you as you will see that some Resource Groups are being rostered less credit hours.

It is important to take the time in the lead up to the vote to appreciate the value of raising the current 57.5 MCG which translates into higher guaranteed income. Currently payment for credit hours above 57.5 is not guaranteed which creates obvious financial uncertainty if less flying hours are performed in the future. Conversely, the proposed value of credit hours between 57.5 and the productivity threshold (increased hourly rate) and above the productivity threshold (increased productivity rate) is higher than under EA21.

In simplistic terms, you will earn significantly more under the proposed EA for the same work performed than you will under EA21, whether above or below the productivity threshold.

We have averaged the median credit hours across all resource groups over 13 roster periods for you below. You are able to enter the Peak and Off-Peak ‘Calculator Input’ figure into the AFAP Pay Calculator for your specific resource group. Check and Training data has been removed as that inflates the figures.

Median Drafts

Whilst working on days off is an individual choice, we provided you data where the median drafts per roster period was 2 per pilot. This data had part-time pilots removed as that pushed the median up to 3 drafts per roster.

How Does ODTA and IDTA Work

As we mentioned in our previous Update, the proposed EA moves to a pro-rated hourly based payment for overnight allowances (for the length of the trip from Sign on in Home Base to sign off in Home Base as per the current EA) along with the introduction of an international top-up. This international top-up will apply from sign-on in Australia for international pairing to sign-off back in Australia. It will utilise the international allowances from the ATO Tax Determination table for the relevant country cost group.

Whilst HND as an opt-in 5-day pairing is currently utilising international allowances it will still see an increase to the allowance paid along with the introduction of this same top-up to all international layovers.

The below table shows a small sample of some international pairings.
