AFAP UPDATE - SKIPPERS AVIATION EA 2024

RE Skippers Aviation Enterprise Agreement 2024

As per AFAP emails to members, on Friday 28 June 2024 the AFAP, a bargaining representative as per the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) made the request to bargain for a new proposed agreement for the pilot group at Skippers.

Changes in late 2022 to the FW Act, allowed for a bargaining representative to request bargaining within 5 years of the expiry of the nominal expiry date of the current agreement (which was due to expire).

AFAP members can expect a Notice of Employee Representational Rights (NERR) to bargain for a proposed enterprise agreement (EA), and that this will be provided to the pilot group soon. Skippers CEO contacted the AFAP to confirm the next steps with the NERR will be occurring and pilots should expect this notice in the near future (if not already provided at time of this update).

What to do when I get the NERR?

  • Firstly, provide a copy to the AFAP and date you received it.
  • AFAP members have the AFAP, your union as your default bargaining representative – therefore you do not require to take any other steps for the AFAP to remain the bargaining representative.

What Happens Next?

  • The AFAP intend to undertake further assessment of changes in Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) and the Air Pilots Award 2020, since the 2016 Skippers EA.
  • A new proposed EA may require a range of updates.
  • It is likely Skippers management reps will also undertake a similar process assess changes in the Award and changes in operations.

The AFAP plan to seek the members and pilot group feedback on current conditions, potential improvements to an EA (claims) as assistance towards a new agreement – further updates to come.

The Skippers CEO commented that planned wage increases (applied since the nominal expiry date of the EA) will continue in July 2024.

Please do not hesitate to reach out for assistance to AFAP via email to Industrial Officer, Jason Newell at Jason@afap.org.au.

Yours Sincerely,
The AFAP Industrial Team
