Your Rights Under the Jetstar EA and Roster Protocol
Due to the significant influx of pilots joining Jetstar in recent years, and the subsequent rise in enquiries from members about rostering and pilots' rights, the AFAP Jetstar Pilot Federation (JPF) Committee has updated and published guidance on your rights under the 2019 Enterprise Agreement (EA) and Roster Protocol here.
We encourage pilots to download and save this PDF guidance to your work iPads as an additional resource to provide clarity about your rights under the EA and the proper application of the rostering protocols.
This updated guidance addresses the most frequently raised issues and enquiries from members, based on the AFAP's interpretation of the relevant provisions in the 2019 EA and Roster Protocol. The guidance also includes practical examples and calculations illustrating the correct application of the RAS provisions.
The 2019 EA and Roster Protocol remain the governing documents that both pilots and the company must adhere to. If crewing issues a directive that appears to contradict the AFAP's 'Your Rights' guidance, you should comply with the directive while ensuring you clarify if it is an official instruction to perform the duty. Subsequently, you are encouraged to contact the AFAP for further assistance.
Nominations for AFAP Jetstar Pilot Council (JPF) Now Open!
Nominations are now open for the 2024 AFAP Council Elections. There are 15 positions available of the Jetstar Pilot Council Committee (JPF).
Candidates and Nominators must be financial members of the AFAP to be eligible to stand for election, nominate a candidate and to participate in the vote.
Enclosed is the 2024 Election Notice and Nomination Form which should have recently been sent directly to all Jetstar members by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).
Nominations must reach the AEC Returning Officer via one of the lodgement methods stipulated below not later than 12:00 noon AEST on 5 August 2024.
How to lodge nominations?
Nominations must be lodged with the AEC (not with the AFAP) via one of the following methods:
- By Portal: Australian Electoral Commission Portal, gov.au/ieb/
- By Email: A properly completed nomination form including all necessary signatures and attachments may be scanned and submitted as a pdf file to IEBnominations@aec.gov.au
The subject line of your email should include the reference “E2024/66 – AFAP - Your Name”.
Once the election process for the Jetstar Council Committee is completed a second election will be conducted to appoint the Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary. These positions will be elected by a collegiate vote of the elected Council Committee members (rather than a vote of all AFAP Jetstar members).
If you are considering getting involved and would like to know more about the role of a JPF committee member (i.e. pilot rep) then feel free to contact your existing reps or the AFAP directly.
Your pilot representatives are on hand if you have any questions regarding above. Alternatively you can contact your AFAP industrial officers Deanna Cain, Pat Larkins or Andrew Molnar via email deanna@afap.org.au, patrick@afap.org.au, or andrew@afap.org.au or call (03) 9928 5737.
