Rex Council - Update
AAPMBF Loss of Licence
Members of the Rex Council and AFAP staff have been in regular contact over the past week with senior management of the Australian Air Pilots Mutual Benefit Fund (AAPMBF or MBF), in order to clarify what impact the recent events at Rex and RAL would have on the MBF Loss of Licence held by individual members.
The MBF's advice to the AFAP late Thursday (15/8) was that:
- It is the AAPMBF’s understanding that Pilots in the SAAB operation have been provided with communication from EY that confirms payment will be made for the Loss of Licence cover;
- The AAPMBF has not been advised if this means it will be for both SAAB and RAL pilots, or when payment is expected;
- The AAPMBF will provide further communication as it comes to light;
- In the meantime, to ensure continuity of coverage, regardless of whether you are a Rex or former RAL pilot, they recommend following the steps set out in the email sent out by the MBF on 12 August;
- If you did not receive that email on 12 August, please contact the MBF using the details below.
The AFAP is expecting further updates from the MBF, confirming whether and when Rex and/or RAL have made the appropriate Loss of Licence payments.
The MBF have further advised if they receive any monies from the Administrators and you have already paid all or part of the contributions due, they will apply the applicable refund to your member record.
Any questions related to MBF coverage should be made directly to the MBF:

AFAP Voluntary Administration Survey
Members are reminded that the AFAP's Voluntary Administration Survey is still open for responses.
The survey is short (approximately 5 mins) and asks a range of questions regarding your experience of the Rex Group’s entry into voluntary administration – how it has impacted you, what your experience of communication from various parties has been, and how it affects your career intentions and expectations.
Survey responses are strictly confidential and are intended to assist the Rex Council respond to the situation, informing our interactions with Management and identifying any areas that may require more attention from the Rex Council or AFAP.
The survey can be accessed at:

The survey will close after today (Sunday 18th August). If you haven't already done the survey, please make every effort to do so at some point today.
Additional Member Meetings

22nd August 2024
We anticipate holding meetings at 10:30 and 15:00 AEST via Teams with Members free to attend either one or both. The intention is to utilise these meetings for discussion of more recent developments, and as a follow up for matters discussed in the first round of meetings.
We will provide confirmed times and links closer to the date.
Members Assistance Program (MAP)
We acknowledge that both Rex and RAL Pilots are currently going through a difficult and turbulent period with the experience likely affecting Pilots in different ways.
However, help is available.
The AFAP’s Member Assistance Program (MAP) is an independent, short-term counselling and advisory service which is available free for members and their immediate families. Even if you feel you are coping but may need help if additional stressors are introduced, you should reach out. Taking a proactive approach to coping mechanisms is the best way to combat against unforeseen mental health issues.
Call 1300 307 912 to speak to a qualified psychologist, for any personal or work-related problems. Depending on your location, these confidential sessions can be conducted in person or by phone.
