New AFAP Pilot Council Elected

Congratulations to the New AFAP Pilot Council

Last week you would have received notification from the AEC regarding the ballot result for the 8 vacant seats on the new Network Pilot Council. Firstly, congratulations to those elected who are as follows:

Stephen Maughan; Ben Walmsley; Sasha Leavy; Matt Atkinson; Joshua Sheldon, Emanuel Zimmerman; Mark Levitt; Geoffrey Aro.

The next step of course will now be to remind the COO of Qlink, Rachel Yangoyan, that the AFAP wrote some weeks ago asking that she confirm full support for this new Council as occurs across all other Qlink Subsidiaries. Interestingly she chose not to reply to the initial request, so we shall write again confirming the election results and ask that she confirm the support of the democratically elected Council.

The Council formally comes into operation after the AFAP Annual Convention (held on 18th October) and soon after that the first AFAP Network Pilot Council will be organised – we shall of course keep you advised and encourage you to engage with your reps on any topic of concern in preparation for that first meeting.

Needless to say the most pressing matter will be the full bench hearing on the Intractable Bargaining Determination that will take place next week (1st to 3rd). As yet due to the significant amount of evidence the AFAP submitted we are unsure if further hearing days will be needed and it will probably be some months until an actual ‘determination’ is made. The AFAP would though like to thank the numerous number of members who took time out to supply witness evidence for this hearing.

In addition to your new reps, the AFAP Senior Industrial Officer Chris Aikens is contactable on chris@afap.org.au
