RE CAE Flight Instructors: Major Change
CAE Change Update(s)
The AFAP has continued with ongoing discussions with CAE late last week into this week regarding the proposed major change that may have significant impacts on some of the pilot group (as defined in the Air Pilots Award 2020).
The AFAP and CAE management reps meet earlier today (Monday 21 Oct 2024) to discuss some of the potential mitigation strategies to reduce impact of major change decisions.
The meeting was respectful talking about the challenges in CAE at this time, current student numbers, and potential future student intakes, as well as moving through options and strategies that may potentially align to CAE operations (noting some ideas do depend on employee interest).
The AFAP used this time to explore whether there may be worth exploring other mitigation strategies including the best approach to the process, should redundancies be required.
The AFAP continue to advocate for a process that is fair, and CAE have agreed to consider the feedback. Not all suggestions may be suitable, however the best approach is to explore ideas and cooperation to reduce the impacts where possible.
An AFAP letter sent to CEA today (Monday 21 Oct 2024) that summarises the discussions between the AFAP industrial Officer, Jason Newell, and CAE –
a copy can be found here.
The AFAP note that CAE also accepted our position that confidentially was also about the commercial sensitivities and did not prevent (where appropriate and reasonable) employees seeking to practice self-care, seeking support and/or advice from other professionals.
