Sunstate Pilot Council - New Brisbane Meals
In July myself, Anthony Berko (substitute for Jarrod Blaker) and the manger of QLink catering, Michael L’Estrange attended a meal presentation at Dnata Brisbane.
The presentation involves a selection of meals and products which we taste for suitability for pilot crew meals. There are many factors affecting the selection which include the overall taste, the ability for the meals to withstand transportation and refrigeration, the size of the main meal plate as well as the availability of products. We are always on the look out for the least sugar options, allowing some “treats” for those who enjoy them, as well attempting to achieve variety for the majority.
We also listen to your feedback and have attempted to incorporate some of those comments, especially with a few new items on the breakfast trays. We do understand that every pilot has different tastes and therefore we don’t expect that everything will be to your liking however with that in mind, the trays are built to have sufficient sustenance for the meal period.
In addition to these factors, there are of course always budget restrictions, but Sunstate pilots are going to continue to enjoy some of the best meal trays provided to pilots of the Qantas group, as once again, QLink management has approved the cost of the chosen menu without any changes required.
The meals are rotated once a week and run through 3 cycles i.e. on the fourth week the menu commences again. Depending where your own personal work cycle commences and the meals eaten on board, depends on the variety for you. The menu will commence on October 30 and will run for approximately 12 months. I have included a brief description of the new meals and we hope that you enjoy them.
Breakfast
Changes to cereal items, yogurts and some snack items
Larger croissants with savoury fillings, frittata with spinach, mushroom and tomato, spinach pakoras
Seasonal fresh fruit and harvest grain bread
Lunch
Salad of miso glazed chicken with sweet potato, green beans, brown rice and sesame seed dressing
Hot smoked salmon served with salad of rice, feta and seeds
Korean style beef with soba noodles, cucumber, kimchi and spicy Korean dressing
Moroccan chicken with a couscous salad
Charsiu Pork with stir fried vegetable and egg noodles
Star Anise chicken breast with spiced chickpeas and pickled zucchini
Dinner
Gai Yang chicken and vermicelli noodles with pomelo, shredded coconut and nam jim dressing
Lamb with pearl couscous salad with roasted pumpkin
Sliced beef with potato and red onion salad
Za’ataar roast chicken with red cabbage salad, smoked eggplant and roast chickpeas
Miso glazed salmon with soba noodles
Lamb backstrap with tabouli, roast capsicum and green olives

In some cases a HIRO will be required, if possible it is helpful to alert the caterers to the problem tray when they are offloading. Once this has been done, complete a meal claim form.
Adelaide and Cairns meal changes are done at a different time and will be advised via SSA council when applicable.
