Meal Side Letter & Subsequent Meal Survey

We would like to update you and clear up some rumours in regards to the current proceedings related to breakfasts since the cease of the breakfast side letter on March 24th 2025. We are trying to work with the company to come to an agreement on how breakfasts will be provided under the EBA, however they have not communicated or given the Pilot Council any information at all regarding how they plan to do this.

We note that the Company has been in contact AIPA representatives in regards to possible plans, however their lack of communication with your AFAP Council reps unfortunately is a reminder of their true intentions. It would seem that despite the AFAP representing close to 90% of members the company chooses not to directly engage with AFAP representatives. We would like to remind our members that all meal arrangements must be agreed and approved by the Council, and we will not approve anything that does not provide adequate sustenance and is up to the same standard of breakfast, that is currently provided on sector one out of the home ports or on sector two after an overnight.

We have reminded the company this week of EBA clause 52.1.3, which states that until an agreement is reached, the current arrangements must stay in effect. If, much to our disappointment, the company choose to change how breakfasts are provided without the agreement and approval of the council, it will be a blatant breach of our EBA, and it shows the company’s disregard to its pilots. In this instance, if you do not get an approved meal at the approved time, you would be entitled to be paid a breakfast meal allowance in accordance with EBA Clause 52.1.4. We are trying to work with the company on providing the best possible breakfast, at a time that is best suited, to ensure sustenance during your flight duty.

To ensure we provide accurate information to the company, the pilot councils ask you to please help us by completing the following survey, so that we can inform the company of what our pilots would prefer.
