EFA Bargaining Update - PIA Ballot Result

Hi Lennie,

The PIA Ballot of AFAP members at Express Freighters Australia (EFA) closed at 4:00pm today with an overwhelming majority of pilots supporting each of the 11 separate forms of industrial action.

For the official result for B2025/891 (the Protected Action Ballot between the Australian Federation of Air Pilots and Express Freighters Australia (Operations) Pty Ltd) – click here.

As you would be aware, PIA ballots in identical terms were also conducted for TWU and AIPA members at EFA.

On a combined basis, 98 pilots of approximately 120 EFA pilots (just over 80%) were eligible to vote in the ballot with the vast majority voting “yes” to all actions.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the ballot. We believe that this sends a strong message to the company that they need to significantly improve the current agreement offer for EFA pilots.

Later this week your pilot reps will meet to consider which actions would be appropriate to commence and when.

Actions may only be commenced after providing the employer a minimum notice period of three working days.

We will advise you when notice of any protected industrial action has been given to EFA, what the exact action is and when it commences.

DO NOT COMMENCE ANY INDUSTRIAL ACTION UNTIL YOU RECEIVE CLEAR ADVICE FROM THE AFAP OF WHAT THE SPECIFIC ACTION IS AND WHEN IT COMMENCES.

Industrial action also needs to be commenced within a 30 day period from the declaration of the results of the ballot. This 30 day period can be extended by another 30 day period (60 days in total).

Our next bargaining meeting with EFA is scheduled for 8 July 2025 in Sydney with a further meeting scheduled for 22 July 2025 in Sydney. Our primary aim remains achieving a fair and reasonable agreement for EFA pilots and we will continue to bargain in good faith to achieve this goal.

If you have any questions on the above, please contact us directly or Simon Lutton at the AFAP on (03) 9928 5737 or email simon@afap.org.au.

Yours sincerely
