This shift work position operates on a rotational roster basis and includes night, day, afternoon, weekends and public holiday shifts. The payment of penalties will apply.

Base salary of $160,000 p.a, plus flying allowances of $22,289 plus 11.5% Superannuation.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

As a Fixed Wing Line Pilot with the Western Australia Police Force, you will play a critical role in supporting a wide range of operational flying tasks conducted under a CASR Part 135 Air Operator’s Certificate and a CASR Part 138 Airwork Certificate.

The successful candidate will operate fixed wing aircraft on a variety of missions across the State including state-wide personnel transport and deployment, Search and Rescue operations over land and sea, day and night patrols, traffic surveillance, vehicle tracking during evade incidents, drug detection and eradication missions, and aerial surveillance in support of police operations.

This position may be based at either Jandakot Airport or the satellite fixed wing base in Karratha, Western Australia, and involves operations under both Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and Visual Flight Rules (VFR) as required. You will also participate in ongoing training and checking activities under the approved Training and Checking system and help ensure adherence to operational and safety procedures.

To be eligible for appointment, the following specialist pre-requisites must be met:

  • It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not Australian Citizens must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they are in the process of applying for Australian Citizenship and are eligible to become an Australian Citizen prior to appointment.
  • Undertake a psychological assessment and may be required to undergo a flight assessment to determine their suitability for this position.
  • Holder of an Australian Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) issued pursuant to CASR Part 61.
  • Holder of an Instrument Rating (Aeroplane) issued pursuant to CASR Part 61.
  • Holder of a Night VFR Rating (Aeroplane).
  • Experience in operating turbine powered aircraft or Multi Engine fixed wing.
  • It is a requirement the position holder must hold and maintain a current Australian Class 1 Aviation Medical.

APPLICATION PROCESS

To demonstrate your talents, we will need confirmation of your ability to meet the following work related requirements:

  • Minimum 2000 hours as Pilot in Command of a fixed wing aircraft including a minimum of 500 hours as a Pilot in Command of a fixed wing multi-engine or turbine powered aircraft. Production and scrutiny of log books will be required
  • Holds a current valid Instrument Rating issued by the CASA, with a minimum of three (3) successful Instrument Proficiency checks as Pilot in Command of fixed wing aircraft.
  • 100 hours of actual instrument flying time as Pilot in Command of fixed wing aircraft.
  • Night VFR Rating with 100 hours as Pilot in Command of fixed wing aircraft at night.
